Bird Photos / Blackwater NWR, Ocean City, and Delaware Shore birding3/15/2008 |
Joyce and I visited Blackwater National Wildlife Reserve and Ocean City, MD along with several places on the Delaware shore for a birdwatching trip 8-9 March 2008.
Highlights of our trip to Blackwater:
A large group of Snow Geese flew around the wetlands area.
These Red Tailed Hawks braved the wind to perch on this dead tree.
Large groups of tundra swans and geese filled the ponds.
At the end of Oakley Street in Cambridge, we saw these ducks in the Choptank River:
A few Redhead ducks mixed in with the larger group of Canvasbacks. More photos here.
There were several hundred Canvasbacks in the river. More photos here.
Several Lesser (I think) Scaup joind the Canvasbacks and Redheads.
At Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, we saw:
We had really good views of Brown Headed Nuthatches at the nature center. More photos here.
We also saw several red Breasted Nuthatches. More photos here.
In Ocean City, MD:
A few Horned Grebes and this Eared Grebe were in the bay as seen from 32nd Street.
We saw Red Breasted Mergansers (above), Brant, and a few Oystercatchers on the bay from Hooper's parking lot.
