I saw this first Greater Yellowlegs at the swampy pond area of Swan Harbor Farm in Havre de Grace, MD. It looks a lot like the Lesser Yellowlegs, but it has a noticeably longer bill.
Joyce and I saw the next birds at Bombay Hook, DE on May 27th, 2006. The Greater Yellowlegs is flying above a Black Necked Stilt in the first photo.
I saw the next bird at the Brigantine wildlife preserve on July 29th, 2006. It was in one of the large fresh water impoundments
Most of the birds in this photo are Greater Yellowlegs. We saw them at the Wetlands Institute in New Jersey on October 21st, 2007.
This bird was in Raymond Pool at Bombay Hook on May 29th, 2010.
Two Greater Yellowlegs stood by a Lesser Yellowlegs in the new impoundment at Swan Harbor Farms on September 25th, 2010. This is one of the Greaters:
These birds flew around the marshy impoundment at Swan Harbor on April 24th, 2011. I think they are mostly Greater Yellowlegs. I am probably wrong, so there are probably some Lessers in there too.
I saw a group of Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs at Prime Hook NWR, DE on January 19th, 2013. This is one of the Greater Yellowlegs.
These birds were in a puddle at Swan Harbor Farms on April 19th, 2014. The one in front is a Lesser Yellowlegs; the one in the back is a Greater. Note the difference in the amount of barring on the birds' flanks.
