Bird Photos / Dark-eyed Junco

Last Update: 4/3/2016

We had many Dark-eyed Juncos visit our backyard during the winter. They came in groups and ate mostly from the ground or the deck.

This Junco has some brown on it. We saw it at the Cape May, NJ hawk watch site, on Oct 29th, 2005.

The next two photos show Juncos in our back yard. They were taken by the NovaBird backyard bird camera, which uses a motion sensor to trigger the camera.

The Juncos we have in Maryland are the slate-colored version. Out west, in Texas and New Mexico, they have other subspecies. I saw these Oregon Juncos at Rio Bosque park in El Paso, TX and at Bosque del Apache NWR, NM, in late October 2009.
