President-elect Obama's Inauguration Train1/17/2009 |
I saw the Obama Train as it passed through Edgewood, MD on the afternoon of January 17th, 2009. Our county's public viewing site was the Edgewood train station, so I went there. I arrived about 2 hours before the train did in order to get a parkng spot and a halfway decent place in the crowd. This worked out well- I ended up about 30 feet from the train, in about the 6th row of people. The train slowed down to an almost walking pace so that PE Obama and VPE Biden could wave to the crowd from the outside of the car. The people in the crowd were friendly and happy, as were the security officers. But it was very, very cold- about 20 degrees.
In the following photo, President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden wave from the back of their train car.
The train consisted of several normal Amtrac passenger cars and the Georgia 300, a luxury rail car leased for this occasion.
Most of my fellow crowd-mates also took photos. The local and national media were also present. Joyce said CNN broadcast live from here.
