This was taken in July 1999 at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo. I was there doing an accident investigation as part of my job at the Army Safety Center. The American presence in Kosovo was only a month old at this point, so the facilities were quite austere. We lived in tents and had to carry weapons everywhere. Camp Bondsteel is located between Urosevec and Gnjilane (pronounced "Jill-on'-knee") in southern Kosovo.
