This is a photograph of Jupiter taken on January 31st, 2001. I used my Nikon Coolpix 950 digital camera and my Celestron 8" telescope to take this picture. You can see several of the planet's cloud bands parallel to its equator. Note that the bands should really be horizontal, but my camera mounting scheme placed the planet on its side here. You can also see the moon Europa as a small dot just below the planet in this picture.
The only digital processing I used here was to improve the contrast a little bit using Photoshop 5.5. I did not stack images or use any other advanced techniques.
