This first large woodpecker with a bright red crown on its head flew on to a dead tree across the field from the hawk watch site on Turkey Point in Cecil County, MD. The red was very noticeable in person, but it's not too prominent in these long range photos.
I saw two pileated woodpeckers at Fair Hill park in Cecil County, MD on July 8th, 2007.
I saw this pileated woodpecker in the snag (dead tree) near the hawk watch site at Turkey Point in Cecil County, MD on September 22nd, 2007.
This bird was at Susquehanna State Park on May 14th, 2008.
This Pileated Woodpecker was digging around a stump across the road from the mill at Susquehanna State Park on April 16th, 2013.
This may be the same bird, seen at the same spot on May 10th, 2013.
