Joyce and I went to the 133rd Preakness at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore. We had a great time, and I took a bunch of photos. We were in the Clubhouse Turn Reserved secton of the track, which was a semi-private area on the first turn past the Clubhouse.
Our seats were 4 rows back from the rail. This photo of Joyce and I was taken right next to the track.
The horses in the second race of the day enter the Clubhouse turn.
Race 4, the Deputed Testimony Starter Handicap.
This is Sylvester Carmouche III, the jockey on Crypto Prime. He came in 8th in the 4th race.
Race 6, the Gallorette Handicap, was run on the turf course.
Race 7 was the Barbaro Stakes.
This horse is Red Sandy. Edgar Prado is the jockey. They finished 4th in the 7th race.
This is Da' Tara, with John Velazquez aboard, after the end of race 7. They came in 2nd.
Jockey Kent Desormeaux on Commandeered right before Race 9. They ended up 5th in that race.
The horses in race 11, the Allaire Dupont Distaff Stakes.
Now the actual running of the Preakness:
The field in the Clubhouse turn. Big Brown, the eventual winner, is on the inside by the rail.
Big Brown on the inside, on his way to victory. Kent Desormeaux is the jockey.
Macho Again, a 40-1 long shot, ended up in second place. He is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds. Note the Black and Gold colors on the jockey. Due to the West Point connection, we bet on him to come in third, so we made a decent amount of money on him.
Preakness Winner Big Brown, right after finishing the race.
Winning jockey Kent Desormeaux. He also won the Kentucky Derby on Big Brown. Will the Belmont and a Triple Crown be next?
There were other things going on at the track too:
A USAF B2 stealth bomber flew over the track at about 2:30 PM.
These ridiculously dressed girls were giving away shots of Frank's Energy Drink.
