We saw these first terns at the north end of the island containing Avalon, NJ. There was a large group of terns standing on a sandbar on a small bay by the bridge heading north. The Royal Terns have the large, orange bills.
The next Royal Tern is on a piling near a Great Black Backed Gull. This was on the Port Mahon Rd near Bombay Hook, DE, in August 2006.
Joyce and I saw these next terns on the beach at Siesta Key, near Sarasota FL in late February 2007.
Joyce and I saw the following birds on the Port Mahon Rd on August 18th, 2007. The other bird is a Great Black Backed Gull.
We saw many Royal Terns at Cape May, NJ in October 2007.
This Royal Tern colony was on an island just off Stone Harbor Point, NJ, on August 16th, 2008. These birds made a lot of noise and were very easy to hear from across the water
