Bird Photos / Sharp-shinned Hawk

Last Update: 11/9/2013

We saw many Sharp-shinned Hawks, or "Sharpies", during the walk to and stay at the hawk watch site at Turkey Point in Elk Neck State Park, MD on September 24th, 2005. Fall migration was underway, and we saw Sharpies, Cooper's, and Broad-winged Hawks this morning.

Sharp Shinned Hawk

It's hard to tell a Sharpie from a Cooper's Hawk. I think this is a Sharpie because of the head and tail size, the shape of the wing, and the little notch in the tail.

I saw this Sharpie at Turkey Point on September 21st, 2007.
