Venus Transit

6/5/2012

The afternoon did not look promising before the transit. The skies were cloudy and gray. I set up my camera and telescopes in the driveway hoping for at least a hole to appear so I could see some part of the transit. Fortunately, the clouds moved away around 7 PM and I was able to see about 20 minutes of the event. This is the best of the photos. It was hard focusing because the camera was attached directly to the telescope, preventing the use of the normal lens autofocus function. I had to use a trial and error method using the telescope's focus knob and variable exposure times to get the proper exposure.

Venus is the large black dot. The smaller dots are sunspots.
