Bird Photos / WhimbrelLast update: 10/3/2011 |
I saw these first birds at the Brigantine wildlife preserve near Atlantic City, NJ on July 29th, 2006. They were in several small groups in both the fresh and salt water parts of the preserve. These are very large shorebirds, with big, curved bills.
Small groups of 2-8 Whimbrels flew past the beach at Ocean City and Assateague, MD during our summer vacation there at the end of July, 2009. They were migrating southward.
I saw this bird near a group of other shorebirds (Black-bellied Plovers and Willets mainly) on Nummy Island, near Cape May, NJ on April 24th, 2010.
I saw several Whimbrels at Brigantine NWR on July 31st, 2010.
These Whimbrels flew over the Avalon, NJ sea watch on September 24th, 2011.
