Our Engagement Story

Monroe told me that he was riding someone around and wouldn't be back at the office but would be able to pick me up at the bus stop. I said okay and thought nothing of it. I continued working the rest of the afternoon or at least until he showed up at my office. I got up to take something into my boss Kristine and as I started to walk into her office, I saw Monroe and he was just standing there and said "Hi".

I was really shocked when he showed up at my office. I had no idea why he was there although 1,000 things went through my head at once. I thought that maybe the person he was driving around wanted to come downtown and he stopped by to say hello. Then I thought something was wrong. I said, "What are you doing here." He then said that he had another birthday present for me.

I was so nervous. I wanted this to be perfect. I told Joyce I had one last birthday present to give her, and I patted the picture book in the bag under my arm. I also said we needed someplace quiet for me to give it to her. She said she knew of an empty room around the corner, so she led me there.

We got to the scanning room and I pulled the book out of the bag. We stood there and I opened the book. I went through each page, one by one, and as I showed her the picture, I read the caption. I was still quite nervous, and I was shaking as I got toward the end of the book The very last picture is one of Joyce and me standing there, all dressed up, and the caption says, "I love you because you make me the happiest guy in the world." After I read that, I said there was one more thing she could do to make me even happier. I got on one knee, pulled out the ring, and I asked her to marry me. She said yes, and I put the ring on her finger, and then we hugged and kissed. At that moment I really was the happiest guy in the world.

When we went into the "scanning room" of my office, I thought that something was up. I just wasn't sure what he was up too. He started going through the book and the more pages he turned, the more he started shaking. The book was absolutely the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me. It was pictures of events and things that we have done or places we have gone and on each page below the picture was why he loved me. I was crying as he kept turning the pages. When he got to the last page he got down on one knee and proposed. I was shaking and I, of course, said yes.

Monroe says he is the happiest person in the world but I think that I am. That is our one and only argument. After he proposed, I came back to my desk and of course we had to show everyone in our office. One of my co-workers said that Monroe made people mad at their husbands because none of them could compare to the romantic things that Monroe does. Then with us standing there she called her husband and they started fighting because she was telling him that he wasn't romantic enough.

I love my ring and I love Monroe.
