Sunspots Oct 30 2003

This is a photo of the source of these auroras- solar activity based around sunspot groups 486 amd 488 sent charged particles toward the earth, which interacted with our planet's magnetic field and the upper atmosphere, causing the colorful auroras. Sunspot group 486 is the large group on the lower center part of the sun, and group 488 is to the right and slightly above.

I took this photo with my Celestron 8 inch SCT telescope, with a SAFE, PROPERLY CONSTRUCTED SUN FILTER!!! Don't look at (or photograph) the sun in any way without the proper equipment!!!
