I took this photo at 5:05 AM, after the end of the partial phase.

The darkening on the lower right side of the moon is caused by the outer part of the Earth's shadow. This is called the penumbra. An observer standing on this part of the moon would see part of the sun. The darkening caused by the penumbra is subtle and is often hard to see at all.
